Ringgit opens lower against US dollar
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar today on weak demand for the local unit, dealers said.

At 9am, the local unit was traded at 4.2100/2170 against the greenback from 4.2030/2100 last Friday.

A dealer said investors are awaiting the release of the US Federal Open Market Committee January meeting minutes this week, which is expected to reflect concerns over economic developments abroad.

The local note also traded mostly lower against other major currencies.

The ringgit was weaker against the Singapore dollar at 2.9943/3.0010 from 2.9893/9947 on Friday and declined versus the yen to 3.7290/7368 from 3.7168/7240.

The ringgit also fell against the euro to 4.6777/6872 from 4.6662/6748, but appreciated against the British pound to 6.0182/0299 from 6.0225/2342.
