KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened almost unchanged against the greenback today, as traders remained on the sidelines.

At 9.06 am, the local unit was quoted at 4.2550/2590 against the dollar from 4.2550/2600 at yesterday's close.

A dealer said players remained on the sidelines as the possibility of a US interest rate hike drew closer with the Federal Open Market Committee's meeting scheduled for Dec 15.

Meanwhile, the local note traded mixed against other major currencies.

The ringgit improved against the British pound to 6.3846/3928 from yesterday's close of 6.3944/4032, but declined against the euro to 4.6294/6355 from 4.6222/6285.

It weakened against the Singapore dollar to 3.0235/0274 from 3.0199/0239 and was lower against the yen at 3.4591/4637 from 3.4574/4623.
