RM155 Mln Allocation For Low Cost Housing Maintenance Highest Received By Ministry So Far

JOHOR BHARU, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry says the RM155 million allocation provided for the maintenance of low-cost public housing and Maintenance Fund for Malaysia in Budget 2016, is the largest it has received so far.
Its minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said it showed the government was clearly concerned with providing a comfortable living environment for the people.
Previously, 90 per cent of the housing maintenance cost was borne by the government and 10 per cent more we sought from residents.
"However, due to the increase in the cost of living, we see that they cannot afford it and as a result, we have changed that policy and today, 100 per cent of the cost to repair lifts, rewiring work and so on will be borne by the government," he said.
He was speaking at the opening of the Malaysian Urban Street Art and Azam Bandar Carnival (MURAL) 2015 in Taman Merdeka here, Saturday.
The three-day carnival which began yesterday was organised by the ministry and Johor Baru City Council, and is an excellent avenue for street artists to showcase their talent to the urban community.
In addition, it also supported the Azam Bandar programme by providing business space for entrepreneurs to promote their goods and services.
