Tropicana ropes in PowerChina for its resort-themed development in Genting Highlands
Tropicana Corporation Berhad and Powerchina International Group Limited will develop Tropicana Paradise, a catalyst township development within Tropicana WindCity in Genting Highlands, Pahang.

The 124-hectare (ha) Tropicana Paradise consists of an integrated entertainment hub that offers 1.5 million sq ft of entertainment choices and one million sq ft of retail options across 15.4ha.

The township is designed to include modern serviced apartments, with a focus on smaller one- and two-bedroom units, branded residences, and four- and five-star international brand hotels.

Tropicana Inspirasi Indah Sdn Bhd and Tropicana Inspirasi Impian Sdn Bhd, wholly-owned subsidiaries of Tropicana and Powerchina, signed a memorandum of understanding today with Sinohydro Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PowerChina.

Tropicana group chief executive officer Lee Han Ming said that the partnership with PowerChina demonstrated a shared commitment to building a sustainable future as well as the developer's strategic selection of strong partners.

"I want to extend my sincere appreciation to PowerChina for their trust, confidence, and support in Tropicana. Our Tropicana team has worked for months to line up this deal and this collaboration signifies our united commitment towards building a sustainable township," he said in a statement today.

PowerChina is a Fortune 500 company with a strong presence in the construction and engineering industries.

Tropicana is confident that PowerChina will take Tropicana Paradise to the next level with their expertise and construction financing, according to Lee.

Tropicana Paradise, he said, would complement Tropicana WindCity, a 241.3ha master-planned township development that was Tropicana's first project in Genting Highlands.

Zhou Jiayi, executive vice president of PowerChina, believes that the Tropicana WindCity master development will pique the interest of both domestic and foreign investors.

"We are excited to be part of this wholesome and exciting development in the highlands with a cool climate. We are confident with our engineering and construction expertise together with Tropicana's master plan, we will certainly build a prominent entertainment and leisure hub of tomorrow at Tropicana Paradise," he said.
