Najib: Federal government to rebuild Al-Fikrah Care Centre
24 Mar 2016
The federal government is prepared to rebuild the Al-Fikrah Care Centre in Kajang on a bigger area for the comfort of its occupants, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) today.
Najib said if the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) gave the approval for a new site, the federal government was willing to build a more modern two-storey building for the care centre in future.
"Insya-Allah (God willing) the approval process for the site would be simplified by the relevant authorities at the federal and state levels.
"We will endeavour to build a more modern double-storey care centre that can accommodate more residents in future,"" he said in his blog, NajibRazak.com.
He said proper facilities and equipment were important for the comfort of the residents so that they could spend their old age in peace and a proper manner which would be more meaningful to them.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister visited the centre and met the 70 residents at the centre which was set up in July 2012 which had become a protection home for senior citizens and handicapped youths who had lost their home.
"I also had time to visit the garden managed by the residents which could pay for 30% of the residents' daily requirements.
"I could not hold back my emotion when talking to the residents who were generally more than 70 years old. Most of them told me the story of being neglected by their children and had no one to look after them," he said.
Najib said he had asked the 1M4U volunteers to help them undergo physiotherapy sessions and health care under the '1Care for 1Malaysia' to ensure that they received quality health treatment.
