M’sians condemn terrorism, IS

PETALING JAYA: As a sign of solidarity with victims of the Paris terror attacks, Malaysians are speaking out against Islamophobia and saying that terrorism has no place in Islam.
An online campaign started by young British Muslims, with the hashtages #NotInMyMame and #IamMuslim, Muslims and others are telling the world that the Islamic State (IS) terror group is the real enemy of Islam.
They are pointing out that IS’ messages of hate contradict the messages of peace which Islam promotes.
Malaysians have joined in the campaign.
Izaanibr posted a picture of herself holding a placard with the #notinmyname hashtag and the sentence “Islamic State does not represent Islam”.
Twitter user Kkan83 posted: “I’m not a Muslim but grew up in predominantly Muslim country of Malaysia. They are not violent and evil. #NotInMyName”.
Another user, Nicholas Ezekiel, said: “I am not a Muslim but I have lot of Muslim friends here in Malaysia. One thing I know about Muslim, #MuslimsAreNotTerrorist.”
“Living in a place where most people are Muslims, ISIS is not the real Islam. Fight For The Truth. #NotInMyName #Malaysia,” said Twitter user TommyLim5353.
Adnan Ali posted “All Muslims are not terrorists, as all white people (non-Muslims) are not racists #ParisAttacks #PrayForPeace #NotInMyName”.
Syafiq Haikal said “I’m a Muslim from Malaysia. We Muslims condemn all acts of terrorism. It is against the teaching of Islam. #NotInMyName”.
Fazz Rahman added that “Islam does not condone such senseless killing #NotInMyName”.
In condemning IS as an extremist group, Fila Magnus said “stop insulting me and my faith! #NotInMyName #Malaysia”.
KazAslam786 said: “Before calling Muslims “terrorists” please look up for the definition of the word #TerrorismHasNoReligion”.
Other social media users have chosen to overlay the colours of the French flag on their Facebook profile pictures as a sign of support for the victims.
