Some of you who are reading this have entered the real estate field as an agent relatively young in life. For some, this may even be your first job fresh out of college or University. The real estate line is not for the faint hearted, and can involve many first time experiences, which may not all be positive.
Meeting and dealing with strangers on a daily basis can really freak some people out. This is because socializing and being outgoing is not everyone’s nature. Some agents can be naturally shy ad introvert human beings, to whom interacting with clients can be a real challenge.
For those of you newbies who are having a hard time communicating with your customers and other senior agents, here are some helpful tips:
Be Full of Positivity
Go through your workday with a smile and a spring in your step. Walk fast, and go about your tasks with a bright and sunny persona. Put away those down expressions and sad face, especially when meeting customers. Remember, if you project a good mood, it will be infectious and spread to your customers too!
Speak Louder and Stand Tall
If you have a naturally soft voice, try amping it up a few notches. Be careful that you don’t sound like you’re screaming at people though, because that’s taking it a bit too far. Make sure you don’t slouch when you stand or sit. Walk with your chest proudly sticking out.
Learn a New Language
In multicultural Malaysia, the best and fastest way you can win customer’s hearts are by speaking their native tongue. You will find that it’s really fun to learn a new dialect, and people will be so impressed that you can ‘Kecek Kelate’ or ‘Kong Kwang Tung Wa’.
Personal Grooming and Dressing
Project a confident and professional image by dressing the part. A sharp suit or an addition of a coat to your shirt and slacks will make you look classy and confident. Make sure you don’t neglect personal grooming by keeping your hair in a neat trim and wearing some mild cologne or perfume. For the ladies, tie your hair up in a neat ponytail or bun to avoid looking like you just got out of bed.
Research and Study
Being new in the real estate line means you have to understand how to draft contracts and how other legal procedures work. Make sure you don’t skip this part and memorize them as quickly as possible. In your free time, practice writing contracts and get your superior or senior to have a look at them to gather feedback.
Know Your Property
Whether you have chosen a property or assigned to one, the first thing you should do is read up on the details of that property. You can go one step further and read up on the area surrounding the property as well to know what amenities and transports are available.
Confidence is something that can be developed and built, despite many people saying the opposite. You can have confidence by encouraging yourself daily and believing in yourself. Good luck and all the best!
